This flat, located in a 50’s building, kept its original layout. One of its most noticeable characteristics was the long interior corridor going from one end to the other. Having four bedrooms, there wasn’t any spacious room and it was an issue for the owners.
We decided to remove one bedroom and the closed kitchen in order to generate a larger main space that would considerably shorten the corridor. We also enlarged the living room integrating the adjacent bedroom, thus achieving a greater sense of spaciousness.
The entrance hall-kitchen-dining room becomes the central area, a multipurpose space where most of the family activities take place.
Taking advantage of the length of the home, one of its party walls was turned into an element 60cm wide with many uses: storage, kitchen, washbasin, washing area and shelving. The corridor is not only a transit area but also an extension of each room in this way.
We chose a continuous resin surface as flooring to avoid breaking up the spaces and make circulation more fluid. Polycarbonate sliding doors allow light to go through and reach the ceiling so as to lend spatial continuity when open.
