This flat is located in a classic 50’s building in the neighbourhood of Sant Gervasi. As was customary in this period, its structure consisted of bearing walls, thus restricting changes on the original layout.
Nevertheless, the flat already featured a good layout with day and night areas clearly differentiated which hasn’t been modified. The alterations focused mainly on strengthening the relationship between day areas: living room – kitchen – service area – hall. By suppressing a room and rearranging the laundry room and guest toilet, an eat-in area and a centre island fit in the kitchen, which becomes an open and dynamic space.
Enlarging the opening between kitchen and living room in order to gain natural light and visual opening has been another important achievement. Both living room openings, connecting with kitchen and hall, feature black steel and glass retractable doors so as to enhance this spatial continuity.
The original layout for night areas hasn’t been altered but a narrow and compartmentalised corridor has been replaced by a wider hallway with sliding doors connecting with other spaces with the aim of extending the visuals and gaining natural light. One of these sliding doors may turn the main bedroom into a suite as required.
One of the project premises was to use few materials so as to obtain a neutral look. There’s natural wooden flooring everywhere except on bathrooms and kitchen, where it’s replaced by grey veined porcelain stoneware that imitates natural stone. Matching the grey from the stoneware flooring, the kitchen furniture and fireplace panels feature a darker grey. Other black-coloured (steel doors, lights, water taps) give the flat a classic touch. Hall and suite furniture and hallway panels are light- coloured within the range of the wall colour in order to gain brightness.
This flat is equipped with an automated system allowing users to control equipment from any device and making their life more comfortable.
